If I wear ESD protective shoes, do I still need to wear an ESD protective wriststrap?

I also get into an ESD smock with my ESD shoes that covers my clothes
I currently wear the ESD strap, however, with the calling I do, it is constantly hanging up on equipment and components. I would prefer If I coud safely drudgery without it.

The manufacturers allege that these shoes will provide an effective ground, but I think that depends on the skin you are standing on. I suspect that cleanrooms and similar dedicated exertion areas have special flooring. I can't see how these work properly on a carpeted outside
