Suzanne Centre School students, some of whom wrote letters to a shoe company supervisor, received an unexpected response to their correspondence.
They got a visit.
Elisabeth Everts, a seventh-gradient language arts teacher, had been planning for the visit from Vans skate shoes president Kevin Bailey for weeks. She managed to keep it a encoded, and as the 35 students entered the second period class Feb. 2, they noticed they had two visitors.
When Everts introduced Bailey and Mike Daher, coordinator of grassroots events, the bundle cheered. Bailey contacted the teacher after getting letters from six of her students during a modern writing assignment. The seventh graders wrote formal house letters to companies about products they were interested in. The assignment emphasized being deferential, with the goal being to receive a reply, Everts said.
Bailey opted to do one larger with a personal visit. The globetrotting executive happened to be in Orange County and undeniable to drop by and surprise the Suzanne students.
