Ashly Burkhart and his associate, Phillip Beeker, are the co-owners of the new shop. The brothers, who are from the Welcome zone, have owned and operated Kata Shoes at 908 Peters Bay Parkway in Winston-Salem for the past five years, said Burkhart, who will handle the new Welcome store.
"It's a smaller version of our Winston-Salem retailer," Burkhart said. "But we have a lot of commercial accounts in this area, in the Welcome Trade Center and in Lexington."
He said corporate accounts include Atrium Windows and Doors, Matcor and Summer Industries in Acceptable and Kimberly-Clark and the City of Lexington.
"We'd had some requests for a retail bank here so people could come after work hours or on a Saturday," Burkhart said. "It's a more close at hand location for those in this area, and if you're doing shift work it's more convenient hours."
"Our biggest hollow is the safety shoe industry," he said of steel-toe and composite-toe shoes geared to foot screen in industrial settings.
