So began the Sunnyside Bike Abandon, a charity operated by a retired truck mechanic and a retired drugstore technician out of their Sunnyside apartment.
"Somebody comes up and says, 'I sine qua non a bike,'" Jerry explained. "I say, 'OK, I'll fix you up a bike.'"
That's the drill, and it became so well-known that by last summer Jerry and Donna were seeing 10 to 30 people per day at their apartment door, asking for bikes and bike repairs, and Jerry was spending about 8 to 10 hours everyday fixing bikes.
